Highlights

  • Ushguli — tower villages beneath Mount Shkhara, among Europe’s highest inhabited places
  • Mestia’s museums, cafés and evening light on the towers
  • Optional day walks chosen to match your legs, from strolls to proper trails
  • Svan suppers: kubdari, mountain cheese, homemade wine at family tables
  • A route with slack in it — Svaneti rewards the unhurried

Svaneti is where Georgia keeps its superlatives: the highest villages, the oldest towers, the biggest walls of rock. It is not a place to rush — the drives are long, the weather has opinions, and the best moments happen between the plan’s lines.

This journey gives the region the days it deserves. Nights in Mestia and a Svan guesthouse, the full road to Ushguli, and walking options every day for whoever wants them.

Day by day

  1. Day 1Tbilisi → Svaneti

A long, scenic travel day west and then north into the mountains, with proper breaks — the Enguri reservoir viewpoint among them. Evening arrival in Mestia, first Svan dinner.

  2. Day 2Mestia & around

The town on foot: towers, the Svaneti Museum’s treasury, coffee with a view. Afternoon options — a viewpoint walk, the ethnographic quarter, or simply a slow balcony.

  3. Day 3Ushguli

The famous road up the Enguri gorge to Ushguli’s tower villages under Mount Shkhara. Time to wander between the hamlets; picnic or guesthouse lunch. Return to Mestia for the evening.

  4. Day 4Svaneti → Tbilisi

The road back with the stops we earned on the way up. Evening arrival in Tbilisi.

Practical details

Pickup
Departure from your stay in Tbilisi; exact time agreed on WhatsApp.
Transport
The Ushguli road is unpaved in stretches — we use proper 4×4 vehicles. Driving days are long; we break them with real stops, not gas stations.
Accessibility
Village lanes are cobbled and uneven; guesthouses may have stairs. Walking options are always optional — tell us what’s comfortable and we’ll shape the days around it.

Questions about this tour

What if we need to cancel or change our dates?

Plans change — especially with flights and kids. Date changes and cancellation terms are agreed clearly in your WhatsApp chat before you confirm the trip, so you always know where you stand. A written cancellation policy page is being finalised.

What about mountain weather?

Mountain weather changes fast and we plan around it, not against it. For high routes (Kazbegi, Gudauri, Svaneti) we watch the forecast and will suggest reordering days or swapping viewpoints to catch the clear window — that flexibility is a big reason to travel with locals.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier we talk, the more choice you have with dates, cars and mountain accommodation — summer holidays and the New Year snow weeks fill up first. That said, message us even for short-notice ideas; sometimes the mountains have room.
